Tree Surgeons in Bearsted, Maidstone

Trusted by Bearsted homeowners and Bearsted Parish Council

Bearsted is one of our closest and most regular areas. Our yard is in neighbouring Detling, a few minutes away, so we can get the team, chipper and stump grinder to you quickly, without the travel costs of firms coming in from further afield.

We work for homeowners right across the village, from cottages around the Green to larger houses in their own grounds. We’ve also been trusted with work by the parish council:

“Bearsted Parish Council have engaged the services of Maidstone Tree Surgeons on several occasions and they are always extremely efficient, professional and helpful.”
Joanne, Bearsted Parish Council

Connor, Ethan and Ben are NPTC and City & Guilds qualified arborists, and we work to BS 3998:2010, the British Standard for tree work.

Bearsted Green and the conservation area

Bearsted’s character is built around its village green. Maidstone Borough Council’s Bearsted Conservation Area was first designated in 1970 and was reviewed with a new appraisal in 2024–25. It covers four character areas: Village Green, Snowfield, The Street and Holy Cross. The appraisal calls the Green “the dominant defining characteristic” of the conservation area, a large, well-used open space for cricket and community events, with a pond. It also describes the Snowfield area’s “mature specimen trees” and views over the North Downs, the wooded slopes of Hog Hill as a backdrop, and large houses in substantial grounds near Holy Cross Church.

For tree work, that means three things to check:

  1. Trees in the conservation area. Any tree with a stem over 75mm in diameter at 1.5m above ground is protected. You must give Maidstone Borough Council six weeks’ notice before pruning or felling it.
  2. Tree Preservation Orders. Trees elsewhere in Bearsted may have a TPO. These need the council’s consent, which can take up to eight weeks.
  3. Trees on the Green itself. Under the parish council’s Village Green policy, trees on the Green must not be pruned or cut down without permission from Bearsted Parish Council, and from Maidstone Borough Council where conservation-area or TPO rules apply.

We’ll tell you at the quote stage whether your trees are likely to be protected, and help with the notice or application. Our guide Do I need permission to cut down a tree in Maidstone? explains the rules.

Tree surgery services in Bearsted

Tree removal. Safe, sectional removal of trees that are dead, dangerous, diseased or simply in the wrong place, with the site left clean.

Site clearance and vegetation management. Clearing overgrown plots, gardens and land before landscaping or building work.

Stump grinding. Grinding stumps below ground so you can re-turf, plant or build.

Bearsted is known for looking well kept, and hedges are a big part of that, from clipped yew and beech fronting period houses to tall laurel and leylandii screens between gardens. We offer hedge trimming and shaping as a one-off or on a regular basis, and hedge removal when a hedge has had its day. We plan around nesting birds. See when to cut hedges to avoid nesting birds.

Not sure how often your trees need attention? Our article on how regular tree maintenance in Bearsted can save you money explains why little and often usually costs less than leaving it.

Crown reduction and crown thinning. Mature oaks, limes, beech and conifers in Bearsted gardens often grow too big for the house beside them. A reduction keeps the tree’s natural shape while making it smaller and lighter, and it’s usually the option councils prefer for protected trees.

Deadwood removal. Taking out dead and dying branches before they fall on roofs, cars or people.

Pollarding. Keeping established pollards, such as limes and planes, to a manageable size on a regular cycle.

Crown lifting. Removing low branches over drives, paths and lawns to give clearance and let in light.

If a storm brings a tree or big limb down on a house, car, road or the Green, we offer 24/7 emergency call-outs to make it safe. See our emergency tree surgeons in Bearsted page. Routine work is booked during normal working hours.

We’re used to tricky climbs. In October 2026, KentOnline covered Connor climbing a 50ft sycamore at Maidstone’s Army barracks to bring down a cat the fire service hadn’t been able to reach.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Bearsted property in the conservation area?

It may be if you’re around the Green, The Street, Snowfield or Holy Cross Church. Maidstone Borough Council publishes a conservation area map, or we can check for you when we quote.

Who looks after the trees on Bearsted Green?

Bearsted Parish Council. Under its Village Green policy, trees on the Green can’t be pruned or cut down without the parish council’s permission. Maidstone Borough Council’s permission is also needed where conservation-area or TPO rules apply.

Do you offer regular hedge and tree maintenance?

Yes. We can book you in once or twice a year to keep hedges and trees in shape, which is often cheaper than one big job every few years.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes. Send photos or a short video on WhatsApp, or ask about a live video quote. Because we’re so close, we can easily visit if the job needs it.
